Why You Need to Do This Before You Unpack
When you receive keys at closing, you typically get the keys the previous owner handed over. But those aren't the only copies that exist. Real estate agents, contractors, house cleaners, dog walkers, family members, and neighbors may all have copies — and you have no way of knowing.
Rekeying your locks immediately after closing is the single most important security step a new homeowner can take. It's fast, affordable, and gives you complete peace of mind.
Rekeying vs. Replacing — Which Do You Need?

- Best when locks are in good condition
- Can key all locks alike (one key for everything)
Lock Replacement
We remove the old hardware entirely and install new locks. Recommended when existing locks are worn, damaged, or low quality.
- Best when locks are old or damaged
- Upgrade to higher security grade
- Option to add smart locks / keypad entry
- Comes with 1-year warranty on new hardware
- Recommended for exterior doors with worn locks

Common Questions
How soon after closing should I rekey my locks?
Ideally the same day you get your keys — or at minimum within the first week. The sooner the better. Call us at 484-546-5132 and we can often schedule around your closing date.
How many keys will I get after rekeying?
We cut as many keys as you need. Most homeowners request 2–4 copies. Additional copies are available at low cost.
Do I need to be home for the rekeying appointment?
Yes — an adult needs to be present to let us in and to receive the new keys. The appointment typically takes 30–60 minutes depending on the number of locks.
Can you rekey a Kwikset SmartKey lock?
Yes. Kwikset SmartKey locks can be rekeyed without removing the lock from the door. We handle all major brands including Kwikset, Schlage, Defiant, and Baldwin.
